AD HIGHLIGHTS CHILDREN LEFT BEHIND
BY BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S TAX CUTS

New York Times Full Page Ad: Bush Tax Cut Leaves No Millionaire Behind

WASHINGTON A full page ad will appear Tuesday in the New York Times National section highlighting how the "Bush tax cut leaves no millionaire behind … just millions of children."

Outlining those "LEFT BEHIND by the Bush tax cut for America's richest," the ad outlines how the Bush Administration's tax and budget plan will force government to abandon children, forget families and ignore communities.

The Bush Administration plans to dismantle Head Start, block grant Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, and slash and freeze crucial services to pay for massive new tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans hoping that it will spur the economy. The most recent Economic Report of the President, which the President's own Council of Economic Advisers issued in February 2003, explicitly acknowledges that tax cuts are unlikely to pay for themselves—let alone pay for investments in children and working families.

The mission of the Children's Defense Fund is to Leave No Child Behind and to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. CDF provides a strong, effective voice for all the children of America who cannot vote, lobby, or speak for themselves. We pay particular attention to the needs of poor and minority children and those with disabilities. CDF educates the nation about the needs of children and encourages preventive investment before they get sick, into trouble, drop out of school, or suffer family breakdown. CDF began in 1973 and is a private, nonprofit organization supported by foundation and corporate grants and individual donations. We have never taken government funds.
